Question:
Nascar vs F1?

If I ran a formula 1 car in the Daytona 500, would it beat the COT cars? Would it last through the race? If it won, would it have lapped the COT cars. Or would the COT beat a Formula 1 car.

Also - if I put a Nascar COT car into an F1 race, say in Montreal or at Indy or at Moncaco, would the Nascar car win or would the F1 car blow it away?

Which car, Nascar COT or F1 car is a purely better driving experience?

the F1 car would clearly win both races. those cars have a much higher power to weight ratio and have much more $ and technology invested in them. Their aerodynamics are more tunable so you would be able to adjust to near perfection for the driving conditions at both a high speed oval track like daytona or talladega; or a road course like montreal or monaco.

it really isnt a fair comparison because the F1 cars are designed to be extremely versatile, aerodynamic and light. They are two completely different cars. the open wheel F1 allows the main chassis of the car to be much more sleek and light than the COT which is based upon production cars.

I would have to assume that an F1 engine could be detuned a bit to last the 500 mi of daytona as well, and still maintain a considerable power to weight advantage over the COT.

another F1 advantage is the gearbox, which can be shifted much faster than a traditional COT gearbox, this is more of a road course advantage though.

An F1 car has more power and is signigicantly lighter. It generates far more downforce. You cant compare the two cars in any way. Tune the motor so it lasts 500 miles and it wouldnt be a race on any type of track. The F1 car would easily win the pole and then could drive around and avoid the pack winning the race comfortably. An indy car cant hold a candle to an F1 car but the Indy car turns laps at Richmond 40mph faster than Nascar. That statement alone should answer the question. On a road course, it really wouldnt be a contest!! Just so you know, I'm an avid fan of both. Tonight is the first day of the first race of the year. I cant wait!!

F1 in the Daytona 500: the F1 car's engine would probably blow up due to fluid starvation (ie oil, coolant, fuel) due to the extended centrifugal forces in the long turns.

COT in Monaco GP: the COT would be probably be lapped repeatedly.

The F1 car would probably be more interesting to drive.

Either way, if the F1 car bumps into the COT the F1 car is done for. Also, the COT costs a fraction of the F1 car and there is still more passing, lead changes and multiple winners in nascar than F1 because the cars are very similar while each F1 car is different. Nascar is a little more fun to watch but no one cares about the cars in nascar while the car is a huge factor in F1.

I love, appreciate, and respect them both. I love getting up early to watch an F1 race or setting the alarm for 3am to watch. F1 is the pinnacle of motorsport worldwide. period. whether you like that or accept it or not. But that doesnt mean America and Nascar dont have its share of top talent as well. Of course a Jeff Gordon or Tony Stewart could have cut it in F1. And Schumacher would have been great in Nascar. This F1 vs. nascar is making people as irrational as Republicans vs Democrats. Like the one you like and stop calling the other side idiots. I too, once thought F1 was boring but once I started watching, I got completely hooked and big time. The two are nothing alike and I like it that way. Nascar is a cold tall draft beer and F1 is a glass of fine wine. It depends on what you're in the mood for.

We (NASCAR fans) have never stated that the cars are superior but you will NEVER convince me that the competition is better in F1. From rampant cheating, huge discrepancies in the competitiveness of the teams and all out spying F1 is in a world of hurt in terms of legitimacy. Fans of it seem to be like the team owners in F1, snooty with a false sense of superiority. We don't care that those highly technical machines can do what they can, it's still boring to watch when you know the outcome before it starts. To answer your questions, COT would win at Daytona and F1 on a road course or through the turns of Monaco. I'm sure it is fun to feel the power and handling of F1 cars compared to the COT and that it is a much more exhilarating driving experience.

How do you think a drag racing car would do on one of those tracks. Since this is the NASCAR section we'll make the F1 car try to drive a NASCAR circuit (tee-hee) As soon as the F1 car gets to the high banked turn the camber would be so far off the car would shoot right up into the wall. End of story for the F1 car.

I think the F1 car would be better to drive. They are lighter. faster, and more manuverable. I think a F1 car would lap a COT at almost any track except Daytona where the draft is so critical.

Unfortuantely a better car does not produce better racing. NASCAR is far more exciting than F1.

As I'm almost 100% positive that no one that answers has ever driven either, most answers will be OPINIONS, therefore, your question is almost certain to start an F1 vs. NASCAR war with uninformed answers and biased statements w/o logic or reason... Good luck!

If a F1 ran a race against a COT. COT would more than likely lose. I'm all NASCAR..

The daytona race would be interesting if the COT didn't use restrictor plates or gear rules. I highly doubt the F-1 car could manuver through traffic for 500 miles without ending up in pieces on the track.

A F1 CAR IS GOOD TO DRIVE AND IT IS BETTER THAN A NASCAR COT.

Nascar all the way. They would run over the f1 car and flatten it like a pancake. Rubbin, is Racin!!!

Pointless question.

Its like comparing Rally Car racing to Motocross, apples to oranges, soccer to hockey.

I don't think the F1 car will handle the bump draft...

The F 1 car would probably win but all you would have to do is bump into it with the COT and it would be over !

In my opinion you r talking about two different animals.

That's like asking a whale to fly like a Humming bird!

It's apples and oranges and you can't put one with the other. 2 totally different technologies being used here.

either you really don't know

or really ignorant of both sports.

If you really do not know

you have asked a good question to learn the difference.
