Why does it seem the COT has eliminated the 'BIG ONE'?

I love racing and stuff but why is there no more big one with the COT?

You have to admit it was an exciting ending. There were 4-5 little "wrecks" in the last 2 laps! Then the big one. So, the COT is serving it's purpose, we still have the "big" one, with a lot less injuries, but still a lot of car damage. Congrats to Kyle.

the cot ruined alot of things including passing, the big one, and good races and i understand we need safer cars and what not for the drivers but i think nascar just threw this car into the pit and said have fun figuring it out... if it was call the CPOT it would stand for can't perform on track which is what the cot is

I think its because this car is designed to be a brick. The old "aero-car" if you will, was designed to travel fast in one direction, forward. If it was turned at a slight angle, the aerodynamic design worked against the driver. With the new "brick car", its basically squared an all sides, so it travels through the air the same no matter the yaw on the car. But as the last lap showed us, these bricks still pile up nicely if you try hard enough.

The cars don't run in as tight of a pack due to less downforce than the old car. On new tires they are bunched up tighter, but after about 10 laps they spread out because handling starts to come in to play. Cars have to lift more now because their handling goes away and the pack thins out a little.

I beg to differ. I guess you have to wait until the end at Daytona for the COT to get in the big one. It was a good race and I am glad no one got hurt and you hopefully saw the big one at the end.

Like the first answerer, the cars sideplates kick the car back straight if a driver were to loose control.... most of the time.

*Edit: The Big one has struck!

It doesn't seem that way, it IS that way.

The drivers have more control in a spin situation. They hug the ground better, they steer better, and the bumpers line up exactly which prevents a lot of wrecks from even happening in the first place.

that is the intention of the COT and the restrictor plate.

So basically it just shows it's working. If you want to see people get hurt in motorsports, watch motocross.

They seem to be more durable, this COT car. The old car was easily torn apart. I guess this is to NASCAR's credit that the new car stays in one piece.

either the cot has more down force or less down force than the old car, which makes it harder to turn...i think it has less downforce...idk

I wasn't aware that being a Nascar fan meant you only went to races to watch cars crash and burn.

the sideplates on the wing allow the drivers to save a car from a wreck.

Yeah, it seems it's been broken into smaller accidents.

Gee, maybe because it's one and only purpose was to make the driver safer.

I think the spoiler adds downforce, making it easier to control.

I agree, I hate the COT, it backs wreckless drivers look good. You will watch week after week Kyle Busch drive his car over the edge, but it just so happens that the COT saves it self. It's crap, i see how crappy he is as a driver, or wreckless..... how does everyone else not realize this.

As for the dude complaining about the beer can throwers, why don't you cry a little more you baby. Kyle Busch sucks, i'd a thrown the trash can at the dude. The dudes is cocky & arrogant.

yeah, and you suck if you give/gave me thumbs down. You're just pissed that the car makes your driver look good. Don't you love how wreckless kyle busch is, for example, this is the first year the COT has been throughout the whole season, if it were the old car, he would have crashed back when Hamlin hit him earlier, but nope the car straightened itself out. He himself said after the race that he should have wrecked.
