Serious questions about Dale Jr.?

I am a rabid Formula One fan, so I admit to not watching NASCAR. I do watch highlights on ESPN so my questions are these.

1) Is Dale Jr. popular because of his personality, talent, or is it because of his legendary father? If it's a combination of all three which one of the traits is the *primary* reason for is amazing popularity?

2) Has Dale Jr. ever had a championship winning car? If so, why hasn't he won? If not, has he shown the ability to "overachieve" in a car that was not up to par or on pace?

Formula One legends like Michael Schumacher and Ayrton Senna showed an unbelievable ability to perform miracles in crappy cars from time to time. This is what separates the good from the great drivers, which leads to my final question.

Here are those reasons in order:

1. His father, Dale Earnhardt.

2. Personality, People like him because they can relate I guess.

3. Talent, If this is a primary reason, there should be plenty of other drivers more popular than him.



2) Has Dale Jr. ever had a championship winning car? If so, why hasn't he won? If not, has he shown the ability to "overachieve" in a car that was not up to par or on pace?

1. Yes he has had championship material cars. DEI arguably had some of the best cars from around 2001-2006. Michael Waltrip was able to win 4 races in that period with DEI, and nowadays he fights to stay in the top 35 in points, and hasn't came close to winning.



Jr. has overachieved by some people's standards in cars that were damaged from wrecks every now and then.

I think early on DEI was on the right track but after a while they just went downhill you cant really say they are championship contenders. In NASCAR now a days its almost impossible to overacheive in a poor car their isnt much parody in the sport any more. the big 4 teams win about every thing. He did manage quite a few wins with DEI though alot of people think martin truex is very talented hes only managed 1 win thus far. I'm sure you are familiar with Juan Pablo Montoya he is considered an amazing talent but isnt even a chase contender with poor equipment some times all the talent in the world cant get you any where.

Hes a good driver how ever if he had spent the early part of his career with HMS I think itd be a diffrent story and hed be considered a great driver.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. has won two NASCAR Busch Series Championships, in 1998 and 1999, but has never won a Nextel Cup championship

I believe being with his new Hendrix team his 88 car, will be a great contender.

He is presently a good racer, but has the talent, and ability to be great.

A little of all 3. Dale Sr became much more popular after his death though. Jr has a down to earth nice guy personality which helps. Jr also has 18 career wins which is pretty good.

Jr won 2 Busch championships.

No, not a championship car. This year is worse.

Not even a good driver. The only thing he's good at is restrictor plate racing. Bottom line. Yes, here and there, he dominates the race. That's at the beginning of a race, then at the middle and end the car gets bad. (Some examples: Loudon, Richmond, Martinsville) He can't control it, he overdrives it. Him and Eury are a bad team-up... Let me tell you, you can't have your cousin as you crew chief.... Their equals.. Only opposites attract.

yes any fan will admit that he is popular cuz of his dad if they dont admit it there in denial

he had one in 2004 but a couple bad finishes and with the chase it was pretty bad

I don't really think he's had a championship car until this year and being with HMS he has to best now it's just time for him to get that championship!

I think he is a good driver that is working on becoming great and he will achieve that one day! but in my eyes he is and always was and always will be great

1) Dale Jr. is popular because of his father. No offense to anyone out there but Dale Jr. got where he because of his father. People do like him though because of his personality, because he relates to so many people. He's not your typical race driver.



2) Dale has not won a Nextel Sprint Cup Series Championship, but he won a Busch Championship. He has shown his talent a few times, but Dale is not typically your driver to win every race, many are not.



3) I personally believe Dale is a good driver. He has never been a real serious threat for the title, but he can be consistent. It will just take awhile before he becomes a great driver.

1. Well, a lot of people liked him for his father but there are some true fans out there. Most of his father's fans who switched to being his fan like him for some different, better reasons now. He really is a cool guy.



2. This is his first year in a championship winning car. DEI was a good team but they were not championship calliber. Now he is with HMS, the best team in NASCAR.



Well, F1 and NASCAR are 2 totally different things.

2- Yes, he has plenty of championship cars but it takes a champion to get on the podium. He will NEVER win a championship.
