It cracks me up that people ask this question because call it what you want, I'd still be there!

I consider it a sport but never dreamed it would be such a big deal with some people. Never even thought about it. Nor did I ever think fans of other sports would actually feel superior over Racing fan's to actually post this kind of question!

NASCAR is a sport and takes just as much energy and endurance as any other sport out there. You try sitting in a car going 150 plus mph for 3 hours and tell me you are not exhausted after that. You have to be physically fit to drive just like any other sport.

The only way you get free beer is by getting it from someone, not a vendor. I don't know about all races but the ones I have been to, you are allowed to bring your own beer in with you, so you don't have to pay the high prices at the tracks.

NASCAR is the greatest sport on earth IMO. There are an estimated 294 million people living in the US and 75 million of them are NASCAR fans. NASCAR sporting venues are second only to football. So apparently 75 million folks think it's a sport do you really think they are ALL wrong? I don't.

Free beer, well there are usually 150,000 to 180,00 people at a NASCAR race that might be a little pricy to hand out free beer. So the answer is no free beer, but you are allowed to bring in your own unlike any other SPORTING event.

Actually, the sport is auto racing, NASCAR is a sanctioning body within that sport. And no they don't give out free beer, you can bring your own though. Now if you really want to see drunken idiots, look for the dumbasses running around shirtless in Cleveland, Chicago, or Denver at an NFL game.

Nascar is a way of life. also no free beer at the races.

Yes, it is a sport. It's a competition that you train for, you have strategies to win, and you are on a team. I don't see how it wouldn't be considered a sport.

No, they don't give away free beer..... that would probably be a liability. Now the drunk people that camp out all week long, they might give you their beer.

Yes, NASCAR is really a beer, and no, they don't give out free sports at races.

Yep it is the only REAL sport. No that doesn't qualify you for free beer. It does mean you are not simply watching a game, and nobody is standing around waiting for a ball to come their way, or chasing some guy with a ball to tackle him, or chasing a little white ball for acres...The only balls involved in this sport are the big ones you have to have to stay out on the track at speeds upwards of 200mph with 42 other cars just inches away from you, entering corners with 800lbs of pressure on you, sweating your *** of for hours without a break...get the picture?

Yes it is and NASCAR would go bankrupt if they gave out free beer at the track.

Yes, it is a sport and I have never had to buy beer at a race once.

But the beer thing sort of depends.

I need some of what Jozi has.

i just finished rfeading about the race in the sports section, so yeah. and no free beer, but it is the only sport besides golf where you can bring your own beer in with you, instead of being ripped off to the tune of $8 to $12 per beer, like at other sports and concerts.

Yes its definitely a sport. But I do feel like they cross the line at times for the sake of "entertainment" I have been to dozens of races and I have had to pay for all my beer.

Of course it is and no they don't give out free beer. If you get hospitality you may have beer tickets as part of the hospitality package but you have paid for the package so it is not free.

No....Whenever you can get a 70-something guy like James Hylton out on the track, it's not a sport.

They are driving billboards… Lame.

People die in major events every couple of years. It doesn’t make it a sport.....it makes it an act of idiocy.

There is not NASCAR college racing. Every other sport is played at a collegiate level.

Which one of these things is not like the other: Montana, Gretzky, Jordan, Armstrong, Mia Hamm, Bonds, Dale Earnhardt… Oh that's right.....one of these people are pushing up daises. It is no good to have the best person from your sport in the last twenty years dead…

There will be a female president before there is an African American Nascar champion. Hell, half the people hate Jeff Gordon because he is from California so he is not “one of the boys”. Not the most open minded fans ever. Go ahead and try to throw hockey in my face. The scoring leader Jerome Ignla is African Canadian….Next!!
2008-10-06 08:34:34 UTC
It's as much a sport as golf, bowling or any of the other myriad things they show on TV. And yes free beer is available, only if you are female and willing to show your breasts.
