Dale Earnhardt Sr. would be retired by now. Nascar, today, is not the sport that Sr. raced in. The drivers today wouldn't be able to compete with "any" of the drivers of Sr.'s generation. They didn't have all of the safety devices that are seen today. They really were driving in dangerous conditions. I was never a Dale fan, but I got to meet him once, in 1989 and found him to be a great person. He may have been hell on wheels, but he cared about the fans and his family. He would have let Jr. make his way and would have supported his decisions. DEI would be solidly run by the "Intimidator."

Great question! I really miss him! My husband and I were watching "Dale" the other night, and we both commented on how different a race was when Dale was racing. The races were SO exciting to watch. I miss that. I don't think this whole thing with DEI would be going on right now if he was still around. He'd have control of his company, and it wouldn't be a Theresa issue. It's sad that things are going like this right now, but maybe it's meant to be. I really hate seeing Jr. going to another team, since DEI is something his father started. I ESPECIALLY don't want to see him going to race with Gordon and Johnson, since I don't like these two (no offense to anyone who does!) All in all, things would be different. I wish we could turn back time...

I like Tommy H's answer. No doubt all this DEI jazz would not be what it is. I was an Elliott fan but had a great deal of respect for Dale #3. Today I pull for his son and have since his Busch start and looked forward to father and son for a long time.
That ended that day and still saddens me but lifegoes on and although his dad is gone and he will never be the racer his dad was. (times have changed) Dale Jr is Dale and will leave his own mark. I believe his dad would be proud today.

Dale Jr. wouldn't be going anywhere. May have better insight on driving and car handling. Dad would be there for tips and guidance. Not sure if he would have as many fans as he does today. Most fans would be for Dale Sr. but still Like Dale Jr.

IF! Sr. was alive none of this would be happening No doubt in my mind. He was a true person about everything he did. The thing with Jr's stepmother wouldn't be happing. DEI is and always will be a family business, with Sr. name not her's. If you are a true fan why all the hassle?#3 wil never be forgotten and # 8 should of never been taken from Jr. period!!Fan since1976 proud of Jr. in everything he's doing. He is his own person just like his Dad Thank You #1 Fan in Sonoma County Calif

Thanks for asking this question and for everyone who responded. I know that his death brought about much needed safety upgrades. I was not a fan until a few years after he died, but he was larger than life and a very smart business man. Too bad all this crap with Teresa is going on now. Rest assured that if Senior was still here Junior would be at DEI, driving the 8 and may have had a championship. I know that Michael misses him everyday as do all true NASCAR fans, whether they loved him or hated him. He was the face of the sport.

there would be no dei situation. sr would never let that woman run his boy off like that. i dont think he thought the whole thing through when he made his will out. maybe he just did'nt think it would end this way. dei with no dale driving. thats just wrong and i dont care how you are.

wow this is a great question, I'm sure he would have retired by now if he were still alive, its just sad that it took his death for nascar to make all these safety improvements. I'm sure DEI would be a better organization with him alive, and Jr would probably have won a championsip already..

I dont think of so. I got here into the sport after SR exceeded yet i comprehend he wouldnt have supported the chase. a 36 race season is meant to be a 36 race season not race 26 situations then reset the criteria. as some distance because of the fact the COT i think of all human beings knew NASCAR mandatory to introduce a sparkling layout yet I dont think of the COT is what human beings had in strategies. i could have added to the old motor vehicle. greater beneficial the spoiler which might make greater beneficial race.

dale sr had nothing to do with how nascar rules .
nascar is getting worst every season it all started with the c.o.t car and all the rule changes and fines they are charging the drivers and car owners .
i feel nascar will hang itself in the coming years cause the drivers and team owner will get tired if it and quit racing all together as you know a quite a few are retiring and the number is getting bigger as time goes by.

How would Nascar be today? Things that changed because of his death might have taken longer to happen. We might never have gained softer walls, Hans device and other safety issues.
I admit I do miss him on the race track, but there were things that happened to make Nascar safer. We lost 4 drivers within a year, but because of Sr, bigger changes were finally made.

The changes would have come anyway--NASCAR is run by one family, and Brian France is in charge now. He doesn't have the vision of "Big Bill" and is all about the benjamins. If one good thing came from this tragedy, there are more safety precautions now. But bottom line is NASCAR is all about the bottom line ...and doing whatever it can to make more money

Its sad that Dale had to die for Nascar to make the changes for the safety of the driver's.
Adam,Kenny , Tony Roper & Dale would still be with us today if Nascar would of made safety feature's long before.

I think jr would not have left DEI because he's dad would let jr run he own career and he would have been behind jr all the way.

There wouldn't be so many freakin Jr. fans. I think Nascar would be a little bit more popular if he was still around. I miss him tearing up the track. (and no offence to the Jr. fans, he's just not my guy.)

It would be exciting as ever, Junior would still be racing for DEI next year.

They would all still be being "Intimidated". Man I miss him. It's just not the same anymore. Anyway, I feel it would still be very interesting and the DEI situation probably would not exist.

I think him Jr. and Michael waltrip would have been a force to reckon with, at least in the 01 season, he had a lot to show them. I believe he had a few wins and a championship left in him. love him or hate him, when he was gone you really realized what he had brought to the sport.
Great question, I have often wondered that.

junior wouldn't have any fans and people would stop talking about him not making the chase again this year..... his father would have told him that he could go drive for someone else and maybe then he would realize that he will never be his father on or off the track...
